Romanian Senate Keeps VAT On Basic Foods Lowered To 5%
Romania’s Senate on Wednesday rejected the head of state’s request for reexamination of a bill that lowered VAT on basic foods to 5%, instead of 24%, thus keeping the initial bill the president refused to sign into law.

The president's reexamination request had also been rejected by the Senate's budget committee.
The bill, initiated by opposition social democrats and liberals, was adopted by the Chamber of Deputies on October 19, 2010.
The senate rejected the president's request for reexamination 53 to 46 votes and one abstention.
