Romanian Senator Oprescu Quits Social Democratic Party To Run For Bucharest Mayor

Romanian social democrat senator Sorin Oprescu submitted his resignation from the Social Democratic Party, or PSD, Monday morning.

Oprescu said a week ago he would quit the party to meet all the required legal conditions to run independently for the general mayor seat in the capital city of Bucharest.

Oprescu said he would file his candidacy for the mayor seat on Tuesday, but declined to say whether he would rejoin the party after local elections.
