Smoking at work will be allowed only in specially-designed and clearly-marked areas, outfitted with fire extinguishers, ashtrays and ventilation systems.
The senators approved an amendment allowing smoking in bars, clubs, restaurants and other such locations destined for smokers exclusively, but no larger than 100 square meters.
The bill was adopted with 58 votes for, 29 against and 15 abstentions. It will now be debated by the Chamber of Deputies, the deciding house.
