Romanian Social Democrat Deputy Victor Surdu Dies At 63

Fellow social democrat Ion Munteanu told MEDIAFAX that Surdu had been suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Surdu was born on July 11, 1947. A horticultural engineer, he served as minister of Agriculture between 1989 and 1990.

Between 1990 and 1996, he was the president of the Romanian Agrarian Democratic Party. In 2001, he became a member of the Social Democratic Party and was deputy for Neamt county since 2008.

He was married to singer Angela Similea.
