The national standing office approved the proposition made by party leader Mircea Geoana to amend the Constitution and lift immunity for the head of state, government members and lawmakers. Social democrats are to trigger procedures to adopt a draft law amending the Constitution at the beginning of the parliament session in the fall.
Social democrats will also urge the Senate to adopt amendments to the law on the High Council of Magistrates and will propose amendments to the law on ministers’ liability.
Geoana told a news conference Sunday the party would propose a draft law amending the Constitution at the beginning of the parliament session to lift immunity for dignitaries. He added the draft needs the signatures of a 25% of lawmakers to pass, and the party has that many lawmakers.
