Romanian Social Democrats Eye Forming Govt Alone

The leader of Romania’s main opposition Social Democratic Party, Mircea Geoana, said Thursday he would rather the social democrats formed a single-color government, by themselves, after the general election on November 30.

"I will not hide the fact that I would prefer a single-color government. If we are to get little below 50% in elections, we’ll get Parliament support. The same formula was applied in 2001 - 2004 and it functioned like clockwork. I think that is the best solution for Romania," Geoana said.

The leftist social democrat leader also admitted that if the party doesn’t get enough votes in the general elections to form the government by itself, it will start talks with other parties, but only after elections.
