Romanian Sport Ministry State Secretary Quits Position

Former gymnastics coach Octavian Bellu asked on Friday the Secretary General of the Romanian Government to be released from the position of state secretary within the Ministry of Youth and Sports, citing the impossibility to work in a system he deems “blocked and with no future”.

Bellu said he did not discuss this with Prime Minister Emil Boc and youth and sports minister Monica Iacob Ritzi.

Boc said Bellu’s request to be released is not connected to the situation of minister Ritzi, who faces prosecution over embezzlement and abuse of office.
