The secretary of the Romanian Szeckler Council standing office, Andrassy Arpad, told a news conference Saturday that recognizing the independence of Serbia’s breakaway province of Kosovo “should be a precedent that would speed up the Szeckler County’s autonomy issue”.

"The patience of Szecklers is endless and has to do with obtaining their rights and liberties. The autonomy issue dates back for five centuries. Szecklers once had full autonomy in Transylvania and that is what we want to regain,” Andrassy said, adding the fact that the Transylvanian city of Sibiu was European cultural capital due to the ethnic Germans there.
