Romanian Teachers, Politicians Continue War At The Beginning Of New School Year

The new 2009-2010 school year starts with clashes between teachers and politicians over the unitary law regulating wages across the public sector and recent spending cuts in the sector, but it also brings changes for pupils and teachers.

Eighth graders will take international-type exams, 12th grade students will take three exams during the school year, while the high school graduation exam will have three subjects in 2010.

The unionists in the education sector recently said they would boycott politicians' speeches at the opening ceremonies of the new school year, displeased that politicians disregarded their demands.
