Romanian Worker Dies In Ditch Cave-In

One worker died Saturday noon after he was buried in a trench cave-in near the building of the Free Press House in Bucharest, the Emergency Inspectorate said.

The intervention teams managed to rescue a second worker trapped in the cave-in. He was stabilized and taken to the Elias Hospital.

The two workers were fixing some external wires near the Free Press House building when the wall of the trench they were in collapsed.

Labor investigators said the bucket of the excavator was lowered on the edge of the trench and its weight could have caused the wall to collapse, according to legal sources.
