Romania 3Q Net Investment Down 14.2% On Year To RON14B

Romanian net investments fell 14.2% to 14.13 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.2923) in the third quarter compared with the year-earlier period, largely due to a slowdown in construction, the country’s statistics institute INS said Friday.

New construction works dropped 23.1% on the year to RON7.5 billion in the third quarter, while investments in machinery and equipment, including transport vehicles, were down 9.2% to RON5.02 billion.

Other investments rose 10.8% on the year to RON1.5 billion, INS data showed.

In January to September 2010, Romanian net investments fell 17.2% on the year to RON36.5 billion, due to decreases in all sectors.

New constructions were down 22.5% on the year to RON19.1 billion in the first nine months, while investments in machinery and equipment fell 15.4% to RON13.9 billion. Other investments slid 4% on the year to RON.5 billion.

By sector, net investments in industry amounted to 42.3% of total investment in the January-September period, followed by investments in commerce and services (37.3%), constructions (14.3%) and agriculture (3.9%).

Net investments in other industrial sectors stood at 2.2% of the overall investments in January to September.

The statistics data include financial results from around 21,000 economic and social operators with 50 or more staff. The maximum admitted margin of error is plus/minus 3%.
