The Commission directed Romanian economic operators to contact local competent authorities for further information on the matter.

The new EU system was debuted on Monday, with producers in eligible countries receiving tamper-proof security features and unique identifier marks to track and trace the distribution of cigarette packages along commercial chains.

The system is meant is to help authorities and cigarette producers fight tobacco contraband throughout the union, by tracing the points in the supply chain where cigarettes are smuggled into the black market.
