He claims that the measure led to a price reduction of almost 70 bani per liter compared to the level observed in previous days.

Bogdan Ivan said, in a post published on Facebook, that on Monday he filled up with diesel at a price of 9.99 lei per liter, after a few days before, the fuel had reached approximately 10.70 lei. The former minister attributes the difference to the entry into force of the legislation on the 20% reduction in excise duty applied to standard diesel, a measure that he claims was developed together with the PSD.

Price of gas decreased drom 10.70 lei to 9.99 lei per liter

According to Ivan’s calculations, the decrease felt at the pump is approximately 70 bani per liter.

However, he believes that the price reduction does not solve the fundamental problem of high fuel prices and questions the return of diesel to near the threshold of 10 lei per liter, given that, he claims, oil prices are lower than during the period when he was part of the Government.

Former minister criticizes the way the fuel crisis was managed

Bogdan Ivan recalled that, during his mandate, measures were taken regarding the excise tax and the commercial mark-up, and a liter of diesel had reached around 9 lei. The former minister also criticized the dismissed Executive, which he accuses of not intervening sufficiently to limit the effects of the fuel crisis.

Ivan announces new stake in Oltenia Energy Complex

In the same message, the former minister announced that he is traveling to Rovinari, where a coal-fired power plant is to be restarted.

According to Ivan, the objective is to keep the capacity in operation after August 31. He argues that Romania still needs domestic energy production in the grid, at least until sufficient new production capacities become available.

The discussion regarding the operation of the coal-fired power plants in Rovinari is part of the broader debate regarding Romania’s energy security and the pace at which conventional capacities can be replaced with new production sources.
