Romanian Govt To Compel Landowners To Stub Land – Minister

The Romanian Government will draw up a series of regulations compelling owners of both public and private land to clear it of weeds, Romanian Agriculture Minister Valeriu Tabara told a news conference Saturday, adding those who breach regulations will be fined.

Tabara said the future normative act does not oblige landowners to till their land, but remove undesirable plants. He added weeds represent a dangerous source of plant diseases and pest.

The minister said the regulations do not target only private land, but also land belonging to the public domain.

Official data show Romania has about three million hectares of untilled farmland.
