Liquid Nitrogen Tanker Truck Crashes In Bucharest Outskirts

A tanker truck filled with liquid nitrogen tipped over Monday on the Bucharest ring road. Traffic was blocked in the area and two crews of firefighters arrived at the scene.

According to the Ilfov County Police Department, the area was sealed over a one kilometer radius, between Otopeni and Mogosoaia.

Several intervention crews arrived on location as the truck was leaking nitrogen as well as fuel.

Initial investigations revealed that the truck crashed around 12.45 local time, without having collided with any other vehicle. There were no victims.

Liquid nitrogen is industrially made through the distilment of liquid air. It maintains temperatures way below water freezing point and it is used in the transportation of food products.

According to the firefighters, this substance is not flammable.
