Romanian Democrat Liberals Urge Govt To Pay Overdue Heating Aid, Threaten Motion

Romania’s Democratic Liberal Party urged the government to pay local authorities overdue sums for heating aid, or the party would submit a motion in Parliament in 10-14 days in this respect, party vice-president Theodor Stolojan said Monday.

Stolojan added the party has previously urged the government to pay overdue heating aid, but the government took no action.

The democrat liberal leader said overdue payments for 2007 reach 980 billion lei (EUR1=RON3.5224), while overdue payments for 2008 amount to RON1,225 billion.

“There are mayoralties that can’t pay salaries and finance objectives for their respective localities," Stolojan said.

He warned the party would submit a motion at the beginning of the parliament session, obliging the government to grant local authorities overdue payments.

Party president Emil Boc said that if submitted, the motion would not stipulate the resignation of any government member.
