This aid will be granted after the increase of prices, announced for July 1.

Pacuraru said that after talks held with prime minister Calin Tariceanu, the decision was that additional aid would be granted form the state budget, supporting families or individuals with low incomes, so they would not be hit by the recently announced price increases.

According to the dignitary, some 800,000 people will benefit from the sum granted from the state budget.

The decision was made when the Romanian National Regulatory Authority for Energy announced the increase applied to gas and electric energy prices.

Pacuraru explained the price of gas would grow by 21%, after the increase announced Thursday, caused, in his opinion, by the 30% increase in the price of imported gas.

According to him, the number of people who received state aid in this respect grew from 1,418,000 in 2004 to 4,313,243 in 2008.
