Romanian Hospitals Compelled To Cover Patient Care Expenses

Romanian hospitals will be obligated, starting Monday, to refund the money paid by insured people for medicine and tests as these services need to be performed freely in hospitals, according to a joint order issued by the Ministry of Health and the Naitonal Health Insurance House.

The order was published in the Official Gazette late August and it mentions the amendment of the frame-contract for 2008 on the grant of medical assistance.

According to the document, hospitals are obligated to cover all expenses involved in caring for hospitalized patients, including medicine, sanitary materials and para-clinical investigations, the president of the National Health Insurance House, Vasile Ciurchea, told MEDIAFAX.

If the insured person covers the abovementioned costs to which they would have been entitled without personal contribution, the hospitals reimburse the value of these expenses, on request, according to the order.
