"Only 83 lawmakers voted in favor of the motion, which is not enough to adopt it,” said Bogdan Olteanu, the head of the Chamber of Deputies.
The leader of the democratic liberal group in the Chamber of Deputies, Cristian Radulescu, said the social democrats and the conservative lawmakers did not participate in the voting process.
The social democrats and the conservatives were present in the Chamber of Deputies, but refused to cast their votes.
The Chamber of Deputies was obligated to postpone twice the vote on the democrat liberals’ motion, on lack of quorum.
Democrat liberal deputies filed a simple motion called “The Romanian population will remain without heat in winter. The crisis of the public heating system” obliging the government to grant local authorities overdue payments.
The democrat liberal vice-president, Theodor Stolojan, said overdue sums for heating aid reach 980 billion lei (EUR1=RON3.5802) for 2007, and amount to RON1,225 billion for 2008.
