Romanian Possibly Killed In Attack On UN Office In Afghanistan

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Friday said that, according to preliminary information, one of the victims of the attack on a UN office in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, might be a Romanian national.

Ministry official Doris Mircea told MEDIAFAX Friday the institution is in touch with UN authorities.

People close to the matter said later the Romanian citizen possibly killed in the attack is a civilian UN staff member.

At east eight international staff were killed Friday in an attack on a UN office in Mazar-i-Sharif. Demonstrators were protesting the burning of a Koran by a pastor in the United States.
