Romanian Pres Asks Senate President To “Watch Over The Presidency”

Romanian president Traian Basescu announced Wednesday that he asked Senate president Nicolae Vacaroiu to “watch over the presidential function” while he is in Beijing, where he will attend the opening of the Olympic Games. The head of state will be out of the country between Thursday and Sunday.

"The presidency has communications systems that can find me anywhere on the planet, but, should something happen that would render me unreachable, he should know that I authorize him to make decisions in my stead. However, it is highly unlikely that I will be unreachable," Basescu said.

The head of state mentioned that the trip to Beijing will last from Thursday to Saturday night and that, in this outlook, he asked the president of the Senate to “watch over the presidential function.”
