Revolutionaries motivated their demand saying the party’s statute stipulates it does not allow among its members people who are morally and politically compromised or who have been convicted for actions against the revolution in December 1989, which led to the fall of the communist regime.
"Regardless of Iliescu’s decision to run for senator, we ask that you observe your own statute and oust him from the Social Democratic Party, as he is investigated and prosecuted for diversion and crimes during the massacre in 1989 and the miners’ riots in 1990," revolutionaries said.
