Romanian Social Democrats Request Spending Ceiling For All Parties

Romanian social democrat MP Bogdan Niculescu Duvaz said Monday, in a press conference, his party would propose, in the beginning of the next Parliament session, the amendment of the Law on political party financing. This would mean a reduction in party spending and smaller electoral posters.

Duvaz said these amendments are necessary to avoid turning the upcoming Parliament elections into auction instruments.

Duvaz added that large posters and panels are pointless in electoral campaigns, therefore the sizes of posters should be diminished, as a one meter by 70 centimeters poster is more than sufficient.

At the same time, the social democrats request a new regulation for the financing of political parties, thus 90 days before the electoral campaign, publicity gifts would no longer be accepted.
