The court admitted the appeal of the victim, Ion Jiga, and increased the claims the surgeon is to pay. The decision may be appealed.

The victims’ lawyer said his client doesn’t want the doctor behind bars, but requested damage claims of EUR800,000 to get his life back on track. Following the surgery, the man’s wife left him and he can only see his child with his wife’s consent.

The doctor had his free practice license withdrawn and received a one year suspended jail sentence in 2006.
