Romanian Transp Minister Sacks Traffic Authority, Auto Registry Heads

Romanian Transport Minister Anca Boagiu Friday dismissed Iancu Craciunoiu and Daniel Patentasu from the position of general managers of the Romanian Traffic Authority (ARR) and the Romanian Auto Registry (RAR), respectively.

The minister said in a press release that the two general mangers failed to carry out the necessary checkups to ensure traffic safety.

Boagiu pointed out that alongside traffic police, ARR and RAR are also tasked with preventing traffic accidents. She said traffic checkups will be intensified and highlighted that ARR will also carry out daily checkups at transport operators’ headquarters.

According to the press release, Craciunoiu will be temporarily replaced by Florian Coman Melus, and Patentasu by Stancu Sotir.

Four people died and at least 57 were injured Thursday morning in Tulcea town, southeastern Romania, after a bus transporting tens of passengers plunged off a dam linking Tulcea to its industrial site. The local prosecution office said the bus was carrying 76 passengers instead of its maximum allowed load of 68.
