Bucharest Ambulance Services Sees Disciplinary Measures

Monday morning an extraordinary meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ambulance Service in Bucharest, which analyzed the report made by the Discipline Committee within the Public Health Ministry, and the deficiencies reported in the past days within the Ambulance Service, doctor Alis Grasu, the new manager of the ambulance service, told MEDIAFAX.

The Bucharest Public Health Authority dismissed the former manager of the Ambulance Service, Ovisiu Cismaru, and decided to replace him with Alis Grasu.

The meeting discussed two serious cases of misconduct, both “able to jeopardize the emergency medical act, as well as the fastness to respond to the patients’ solicitation,” Grasu said.

"Thus, an ambulance driver refused to take up a work task and delayed the emergency leave to a patient who fell from a great height by six minutes. This delay could have jeopardized the patient’s life. Luckily, the intervention was successful and the patient is safe,” Grasu explained.

The same driver was aggressive to his peers, and the discipline committee of the Bucharest Ambulance Service decided to terminate his work contract.

Three members of an emergency squad from the same ambulance unit in district 4 were filmed while having coffee and sandwiches in the street, instead of heading to the nearest ambulance station.

The discipline committee decided to reduce their minimum salary by 5% for one month, Grasu added.

Old cars or Dacia model ambulances will no longer be used in the medical act, as the Bucharest Ambulance Service has new vehicles at its disposal.
