EXCLUSIVE: Romanian Prosecutors Allege Over 140 Interior Min Employees Involved In Corruption Deeds In 2007

Romania’s General Anticorruption Department said it probed over 1,100 employees with the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform during January-November 2007 and prosecutors charged 163 of them with alleged corruption.

EXCLUSIVE: Romanian Prosecutors Allege Over 140 Interior Min Employees Involved In Corruption Deeds In 2007

The anticorruption watchdog said that, among the persons charged with alleged corruption, one of them works for the Ministry of Interior, 86 for the Police Department, 20 for the Border Police, ten for the Gendarmerie, seven for the Inspectorates for Emergency Situations, 15 for the Public Administration, while eight work for other institutions.
 
In 2006, anticorruption prosecutors probed 944 people, of which 202 worked for the Ministry of Interior. Prosecutors charged 172 of them with alleged corruption.
 
The anticorruption watchdog told MEDIAFAX that in 2006 it charged with alleged corruption three employees with the Ministry of Interior, 83 with the Police Department, 61 with the Border Police, seven with the Gendarmerie, two with the Inspectorates for Emergency Situations and 16 with the Public Administration.
