Pope Francis Arrives in Romania for Thee-Day Visit

Pope Francis’ airplane arrived at the Otopeni International Airport on Friday, with the Supreme Pontiff scheduled to make a three-day visit in Romania. Hundreds of people waited for the pope’s vehicle on its scheduled route towards the Cotroceni Palace.

The pope was met by President Klaus Iohannis and his wife Carmen Iohannis, in a welcoming ceremony.

The car transporting the Pope then left the airport en route to the Presidential Palace, where the Holy Father will a courtesy meetings with the Romanian president and prime minister, and also hold a speech. The Supreme Pontiff will also meet with representatives of Romanian authorities, civil society and diplomats.

Later in the day, the pope is scheduled to attend religious ceremonies at the People’s Salvation Cathedral and the Catholic St. Joseph Cathedral in Bucharest.

Pope Francis’ visit in Romania is scheduled to take place until Sunday.
