Romanian Foreign Min Urges Politicians Not To Campaign On Romanian Immigrants Issue

Romania’s foreign affairs minister Adrian Cioroianu said Wednesday after talks with Italian foreign minister Massimo D’Alema that the issue of Romanian immigrants is one of image, and urged politicians not to use it in their election campaigns.

In a news conference held together with his Italian counterpart, Cioroianu said Romania and Italy have a mutual perception issue.
 
The minister urged fellow politicians and the media not to turn the issue into a political scandal.
 
"Let me insist on Romanian politicians because we have started an election year. Let us not make these people’s problems a campaign topic," Cioroianu said.
