Romanian Justice Minister To Discuss CVM With EU Officials In Brussels Next Week

The minister will meet on January 16 with Cecilia Malmstrom, European Commission for Home Affairs, Viviane Reding, Commission vice-president and Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, and Catherine Day, Commission secretary general. Developments within the CVM, the program of the Justice and Home Affairs Council, as well as the impact of economic developments on justice in general are on the agenda.

The minister believes the CVM has reached a certain maturity, on account of the advanced state of reforms, arguing that any good-faith observer can see Romania has completed certain objectives which are difficult for any member state, in a difficult economic context.

"The new Civil Code, the laws on Supreme Court promotions and disciplinary liability, the impact studies that help us prepare the implementation of the other Codes, the bill on specialized court personnel are only a few of these objectives. What the Government and Parliament have achieved in the last three-four years for Justice reform is unprecedented in our country, as well as in Europe," he said.
