The proposition was put forward by Social Democratic Party leader Victor Ponta.

Liberal Party president Crin Antonescu said Monday, the Social-Liberal Union (USL), made up of the three major opposition parties, will go on a parliamentary strike until the next elections.

The Liberal Party, Social Democratic Party and Conservative Party have agreed to withdraw from all Parliament activities, in protest against the ruling coalition.

The liberal leader explained that USL MPs will retain their votes and will be prepared to use them "in situations of utmost importance," meaning possible solutions to the political crisis, such as decisions or bills on early elections, motions of no-confidence, President Traian Basescu's suspension or changes to election legislation.
