Romanian President To Address Parliament On June 27

Basescu on Friday sent the heads of the standing offices a letter saying he wishes to address the legislature on matters of home affairs on June 27.

Also Friday, Basescu extended an invitation to political parties for a discussion on the revised Constitution and the country's administrative reorganization, on June 21.

Basescu said Friday that he has noticed some opposition leaders are open to reducing the number of MPs to 300 (as provided by the draft Constitution revision). There are also a number of common positions, between the ruling parties and opposition, regarding administrative reorganization, he said.

The president said the time is right for a talk towards "a common solution." He suggested holding this talk before the end of the current parliamentary session, in the latter part of June.
