The Romanian Press Club (CRP) urged Moldovan authorities to be extremely “rational” and carefully coordinate their actions with respect to the presence of Romanian journalists in Chisinau these days, as they are are only doing their job and must get protection in this respect.
Romanian Press Club Urges Moldovan Authorities To Protect Romanian Journalists In Chisinau
According to CRP officials, Moldovan authorities’ recent measure to introduce visas for Romanian citizens seriously affected Romanians, who are either misinformed or poorly updated on the situation in Chisinau.
"The Romanian Press Club deems outrageous the Moldovan authorities’ measure to introduce visas for Romanians, which, in fact, they do not even grant, because it prevents Romanians from getting information on the situation in Chisinau. Currently, Romanian journalists are denied access into the Republic of Moldova and this situation keeps Romanians from being updated on the events. This attitude is even more outrageous since it comes from a country eager to join the European Union," CRP said in a press release.
The press club also said the Moldovan authorities "must be aware that Romanian journalists are working for the people" and that "denying access to information is no longer a useful solution for any political purpose whatsoever."
CRP officials Thursday notified the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) regarding the situation of Romanian journalists doing their job in Chisinau these days.
CRP also sent letters to Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin and deputy Prime Minister Andrei Stratan, minister of Foreign affairs and European Integration.
Over the past few days, several Romanian journalists have been expelled from Moldova or harassed by Moldovan authorities.
The Romanian Government Wednesday rejected the accusations of the Moldovan authorities regarding an alleged involvement in the internal affairs of its neighbor as provocation.
