Romanian Teachers Say No Gift Vouchers For Easter Spells Religious Discrimination

Teachers said the government’s decision to halt the granting of gift vouchers as bonuses spells discrimination on religious criteria, as Catholics already received bonuses, while Orthodox teachers might not.
 
Some thousands of pre-university teachers in Bucharest are expected to attend a protest rally Wednesday at the government’s headquarters. Teachers went on go-slow strike Thursday, protesting against the government’s decision to stop granting gift vouchers to public sector employees, in a move to contain public spending.
