The panel’s chairman, Iulian Dragomir, took the decision on Monday, in light of a ruling made by top judicial watchdog CSM last December. The institution decided to keep the cases with the panels they were assigned that month, despite the panels being re-drawn in January for the entirety of 2019.

“We are discussing the challenge at the United Sections to change the case law. We will notify the Criminal Section for a point of view, regarding also the suspension of trials,” Dragomir said at Monday’s term.

The panel, which handles criminal cases involving former Prime Minister Victor Ponta and fugitive businessman Sebastian Ghita, postponed all of its trials until February 4.
