Romania’s general consolidated budget will report a deficit of 1.4% of gross domestic product at the end of the year, Economy and Finance Minister Varujan Vosganian said Thursday.

Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSD) president Mircea Geoana, might meet with Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu and economy and finance minister Varujan Vosganian, to discuss the state budget for 2008, before the document reaches Parliament vote, social democrat sources told MEDIAFAX.

The Romanian government, unions and owners’ associations decided to set the 2008 minimum salary at RON500.

Romanian ministers discussed in the government meeting Monday the draft emergency ordinance on this year's third budget revision, drafted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and decided to postpone the approval of the document for next week, official sources told MEDIAFAX.
