Romania’s social assistance system risks collapsing because of recent budget and staff cut plans, the former secretary of state from the Romanian National Child Protection Authority, Ileana Savu, told MEDIAFAX Thursday.

The continuing hunger strike by anti-communist revolutionaries in front the Romanian government building in Bucharest is starting to take a toll on the health of the protesters, as two of the hunger strikers fainted Saturday.

The Bucharest Court of Appeals on Thursday said Ioana Maria Vlas, former head of Romania’s FNI investment fund, was released from prison so that she could have a fair trial.
