Dozens of environmentalists picketed the Parliament for over an hour, displaying banners against the draft law, which is currently on the agenda of specialized commissions in the Chamber of Deputies. The chamber is the decision maker in this matter, as the draft law was adopted unanimously in Senate. This hunting law was previously adopted in Parliament, but the head of state refused to promulgate it.
Environment minister Attila Korodi joined protesters and thanked them for their support in the fight against the draft law.
"It is essential to have hunting completely banned in certain areas in the country. Of course, in exceptional cases, such as natural imbalances or sanitary reasons, when man should intervene to control a wild population, we can find legal solutions,” the minister said, adding the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development drafted an amendment in this respect and would submit it to the Chamber of Deputies’ commissions for environmental issues and agriculture in the following days.
