Romanian Flood Victims Obligated To Insure Their State Rebuilt Homes

Romanian flood victims whose homes will be rebuilt completely with the help of authorities, will be obligated not to sell the homes within five years and to take out an insurance policy for the building in the same interval, said Romanian prime minster Calin Tariceanu.

He announced that, in the government meeting held Thursday, funds worth 1.9 million lei (EUR1 = RON3.5366) were allocated for the purchase of products needed by the flood victims in counties Bacau, Botosani, Iasi and Neamt, as emergency humanitarian aid, as well as a sum of RON5.5 million for fast intervention operations in  Bacau, Botosani, Iasi and Neamt, Maramures and Suceava.

"However, I expected local authorities to bring some funding as well, not just wait for the government to step in," Tariceanu said.

The government also decided to create a solidarity fund in which the employees of public institutions can donate sums for the victims. Tariceanu said these donations will represent an option, not an obligation.

Social aid will be granted in the six counties through collection centers, coordinated by the deputy prefects in each county, a system through which authorities make sure that the aid will be distributed fairly, depending on the damage registered.

The committees for the evaluation of damage in the six counties will reunite Friday, at 9.00 local time, for a meeting.
