Acting President Traian Basescu Will Run For Second Mandate – Romanian Transp Min

Romanian transport minister Radu Berceanu on Saturday said he is sure that acting president Traian Basescu will run for a second mandate and will announce his candidacy close to the start of the electoral campaign.

The democrat liberal said it is normal that the head of state should not announce his candidacy a year prior to the elections, but he is sure that Basescu will participate in the presidential elections for a new mandate.

“I am sure that Mr. Traian Basescu will run, but I don’t think it’s normal that a president who won a five-year mandate should be four years president and one year candidate,” Berceanu said.

He said the head of state will announce his participation in the presidential race very close to the beginning of the electoral campaign.
