Heavy Rain Causes Havoc In SW Romania
Dozens of households were flooded, and a warehouse caught fire Thursday evening in southwestern Romanian town Drobeta Turnu Severin, after heavy rain that lasted one hour and a half.

The rain started abruptly in Drobeta Turnu Severin, Thursday evening, around 20:00 local time, and after several minutes the sewers gave in on the main streets of the city paralyzing traffic. Many cars were stuck as water leaked into the engines.
According to the spokesperson for the Mehedinti county Inspectorate for Emergencies, Ramona Nistor, in Drobeta Turnu Severin rain rached 50 liters per square meter, and in just several minutes over 50 calls were made to the Inspectorate, from locals requesting assistance as their homes had been flooded.
Several cars were covered in water in the parking lot of the Mehedinti County Police Department, where water reached levels of one meter and a half.
In addition, a strong blaze was set off by lightning in a warehouse containing clothes and feed and flammable materials, found ten kilometers away from the town. The fire was extremely violent and it was hard to put out, because the warehouse spanned over tens of square meters and it contained flammable materials that kept the fire going despite the rain.
According to the latest report issued by the Inspectorate, 35 basements were flooded, and 18 localities blacked out.
In addition, a national road was flooded and traffic unfolded with difficulty in the area.
