Tariceanu urged the members of the government and the management authorities coordinating EU-funded programs to speed up the strategy aimed at expanding Internet access in rural areas.

Late 2007, Tariceanu said the government would set up 246 local centers to provide computer-related information to population and pointed out the huge gap between rural and urban areas in using broadband communications services.

Tariceanu also said the government plans to expand the telephony network countrywide to ensure both fixed telephony services, including in the areas with mobile coverage, and Internet access to all schools.
