Romanian Social Democrat Head To Nominate Party VP For Interior Min – Sources

Romanian social democrat leader Mircea Geoana will propose party vice president Liviu Dragnea for the position of interior minister, party sources told MEDIAFAX.

Dragnea will be the one nominated by Geoana in the party’s National Executive Committee for the position of interior minister after the resignation of Gabriel Oprea, whom the party deprived of political support.

The same sources said the party will postpone proposing someone to replace Titus Corlatean in the position of party secretary general. Corlatean resigned this position Thursday citing personal reasons.

The National Executive Committee within the Social Democratic Party will meet Monday at the Parliament Palace to decide who will replace Gabriel Oprea at the helm of the Ministry of Administration and Interior, who will be the interim secretary general and who will coordinate the party branches with poor results in the elections.
