"I asked for a budget of some RON19 billion, a budget 90% higher than the one we had this year," Berceanu said after a news conference.

Berceanu told the news conference that he wants to increase investment budgets next year on several segments. Thus, the 2010 proposition for railroad transport cumulates RON3.7 billion, double the sum initially approved this year, of RON1.8 billion.

At the same time, for passenger train ticket subsidies, the minister said he wants to allot RON1.2 billion, compared to the RON678 million allotted this year.

Another increase refers to the level of investments by state-owned economic operators, where the minister proposed the allotting of RON1 billion in 2010, compared to RON576.8 million in 2009.

"We want to introduce a new chapter, repairs of the public railroad infrastructure, where we want to have some RON800 million," Berceanu said.

He added he discussed these sums with the Ministry of Finance and the prime minister and made his argument using the model applied in other states.
