Ioan Baciu, head of the Democratic Union Confederation in Romania (CSDR), said talks on Friday only led to a new round of talks next Tuesday on the minimum salary, adding that, under these circumstances, the confederation will picket the Government's headquarters on Monday.

Sorin Stan, secretary general of the National Confederation of Free Unions in Romania (CNSLR Fratia), said 20,000 unionists countrywide will reach Bucharest on September 22 to protest in the Revolutiei Square and at the Government's headquarters.

Mariana Kniesner, vice-president of the National Union Bloc, said around 15,000 people are expected to join the protest rally planned for September 28 in Bucharest's Victoriei Square.

Also, members of the Romanian "Cartel Alfa" trade union confederation will hold pickets throughout the country on Monday, followed by protests between September 22 and 27 in Bucharest's Victoriei Square.

The National Federation of Unions in Administration (FNSA) said Wednesday that public administration unionists will go on general strike for one month starting the second half of October, if the Government does not call off the austerity measures planned for 2011.

FNSA has 50,000 members at a national level.

FNSA leader Valer Suciu said protests are triggered by salary cuts in the public administration sector in 2010, as well as by authorities' decision to eliminate the 13th salary and vacation bonuses in 2011.
