The first confirmed death from influenza virus this season has been reported. The victim was an 88-year-old woman from Cluj County. She had other medical problems and had not been vaccinated against influenza.

The influenza pandemic could last for two years, in four waves, Romanian Health Ministry secretary of state Adrian Streinu-Cercel said Monday.

Romania’s health minister Ion Bazac said Wednesday the novel influenza virus AH1N1 cannot be treated in outpatient setting and stressed that people with symptoms of influenza must go to an infectious diseases hospital immediately.
