Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Tuesday that, starting next year, the mechanism for establishing local taxes will be modified.

The Romanian Government rejected local authorities’ proposition to raise local taxes by up to 50% next year, Finance Minister Gheorghe Ialomitianu said Tuesday evening.

Carcea village mayoralty in Dolj county, southern Romania, sued Ford Romania late March this year after it previously requested the company register with the farming registry of Carcea village to pay its taxes to the local budget, which are estimated at nearly EUR2 million.

Romania's Finance Ministry will not get involved in setting local taxes, which should be based on the taxpayers’ payment possibilities, finance minister Gheorghe Pogea said Friday.
