The tuberculosis diagnosis, treatment, and research center on Calea Șerban Vodă will be ready for use in April 2026 and will become operational in the middle of next year.

Italian doctors are concerned with the reoccurrence of tuberculosis, claiming the disease is brought to Italy mainly by Romanian immigrants, after the liberalization of movement in the European Union.

The number of tuberculosis cases in Romania dropped nearly 30% to 110.1 cases per one thousand inhabitants during 2002-2007, but the country still has the highest TB rate in Europe, Health Minister Eugen Nicolaescu said Monday.
