The commissions, which debated Tuesday the draft law approving the ordinance, also decided taxes already cashed are to be paid back in full.
Senators adopted 15 amendments, which eliminate the pollution tax on cars introduced on July1, 2008 and the old car tax, which was effective until the first half of the year.
Senators in the two commissions also decided taxes cashed should be fully refunded, from the state budget, not the environmental fund. Senators also said refunds should be adjusted to inflation.
However, the government is awaiting the final decision of the Chamber of Deputies, which has the final decision in this matter, government spokesperson Camelia Spataru told MEDIAFAX Wednesday.
"For the time being, this was a vote of the commissions, a vote in the Senate’s plenary session will follow and let’s not forget that the decider in this matter is the Chamber of Deputies, not the Senate,” Spataru said.
