Sarbu said the Social Democratic Party insists that the government should increase pensions starting October 1, adding there are financial resources to back the move.
Sarbu said pension hikes as of October 1 instead of November 1, as the government decided, would cost the state budget EUR150 million. He added the sum is included in the EUR400 million budgeted for pensions since the beginning of the year.
"We do not approve of the government fixing its budget deficit to the detriment of pensioners," the social democrat official said.
He added the party would call for a no-confidence vote in parliament unless the government adopts the normative act moving up pension hikes by September 22.
The social democrat also said that he had informal discussions with democrat liberals, former government allies, and understood they would be willing to give the minority government a no-confidence vote.
